It was close to midnight on this chilly day that only seemed to be getting more nippy as time passed. Now there are not many people who would be crazy enough to be out in this type of weather, and even they would not be dumb enough to be at the beach on this type of day looking to swim a couple of laps. Unfortunately, Hiro did not fit into this category as he was sitting along the shore in sweat pants that would keep his legs warm prior to getting into the water and afterward.
"I doubt my father would approve of this sort of extra curricular activity." Then again, nothing that Hiro did was to his father's approval, which is how he liked their relationship. It was something that had started as a normal child's rebellion to a feud after his father had hit him. Now the two of them were pretty much at war over Hiro's future, which was not going in the direction that one parent wanted to be a part of his master plan. Now his mind was off on one of its usual tangents that led to him forgetting what he was originally doing.
Time was a wasting and he needed to get this little part of his day done so he could go and find a place to take a nap and dry off, which didn't need to be done in that order. Hiro slipped of his sweats to reveal his swim trunks, and then he proceeded into the water which was a lot colder than the air before them. "Maybe this was not such a good idea as I originally thought." For a kid that was gifted at passing classes that he never went to on a regular basis, he sure did come up with some crazy ways to make his father unhappy that didn't actually get his father's attention unless Hiro talked to him which would defeat the purpose of this whole situation.
The young man swam back to the shore where he had left his sweats only to find something lying on top of his clothes. He picked up the thing to see that it looked sort of like the devices from his younger sister's TV show that his father disapproved of greatly. "What the heck is this stupid thing?" More importantly, why had someone put it with his stuff. It wasn't like he needed one of these stupid toys in the first place unless it would drive his father bonkers. It would go great with those Digimon cards that he kept with him just to annoy his father whenever he saw them.
"You humans are rather weird aren't ya? Why do you take off your outer layers before going in the water?' Hiro turned to see a blue and green creature walk over to him, which normally would be a cause of alarm to most people but he played it off as a result of his idea to take an icy dip. "It is a tradition to do so." It also made it easier to move around in the water, but that went without saying for most people. Hiro probably should have thought that this entire situation was some sort of dream as a result of him possibly hitting his head or some mental disorder that he had that no one had bothered to tell him about.
The small creature stared at him with this curious and unbelieving look on its face that could mean that it didn't trust Hiro or was wondering whether or not the young man tasted good. "So, my name is Betamon, and it looks like we are going to be partners since you have the digivice." He motioned with what Hiro could only assume were his legs toward the device in his hand. This meant that Hiro was not hallucinating as he didn't actually remember what the heck the stupid device had been called in the first place.
"My name is Hiro, and if what you say is true then I guess we are. Now what do we do?" He had an idea of what they were supposed to do if this was anything like the show that his sister still watched through old videos, but things seemed to be different than what he had heard. "No we train so I can digivolve."

As soon as those words were spoken, a dense fog began to move over the water surface. The grey fog then traveled up along the shore, covering over the area within seconds, intrapping the duo within it's center. From there, all was silent except for the sound of the water crashing up against the beach. But then came a thump of a drum, and the clacking of sticks followed after. From this odd introduction came a shadow in the distance, then a voice. "In a world of chaos and destruction...a hero rises from the mist to answer the cry of the people..."The drum sounded off once again as the figure continued to approach the two upon the beach. Though as it came closer, its appearance began to reveal something rather strange. First would be it's size, which was no more than around the same as Hiro's hand. Second would be the features of the being. These consisted of yellow feathers and red hair that had been tied into a short ponytail that hung over a small blade on its back. While it's face was covered by a large straw hat, it was clear to anyone that this being was a bird, no more than a simply hatchling. "All evil beware my might....For I will defend the world as the wandering blade....Hyokomon...."At this point, the digimon stopped, keeping its head low as it remained standing before them. It said nothing, but slowly rubbed it's chest as a yawn escaped it's beak. "Wow...Self story telling is tough..."

Even though Hiro had spent so much time using Digimon as a weapon to annoy his father, he really could not recall much about what the heck the game was about. It mainly had to do with the drinking that he did, or the constant head trauma from stupid acts of the teenage mind. "So we are supposed to be a team that must work together in order to make you stronger so that you can advance to the next level?"
"In a nutshell, yes. Now be quiet because something is coming toward us." The fog that now surround them did not catch Hiro's attention, but Betamon was more aware of his surroundings like most Digimon were. It was like second nature to sense the presence of one another in such a small area. He couldn't perceive who it was without actually having the Digivice pull up the data, but it was definitely something that could be a threat.
Hiro only had one thing to say when the little bird-samurai Digimon came into view. "Dude, that is one little birdie. I can't believe that it produced so many words from it's tiny little body." He began to laugh at the small creature that was in front of him, which looked like a toy that a kid got out of a kid's meal. "Quit goofing off and give me the data on this little chick."
With the digivice in front of his face, Hiro waited for the info to come up from it. "Alright. Don't get your fins all dried out with worry. Hyokomon. Rookie level. Vaccine. Be careful of it's Cleaving Cut." Betamon looked at the little bird with the eyes of a hunter as it began to debate what type of attack it should use against it. "Electric Shock!" A bolt of electricity came out of the tip of his fin and went toward the little bird.

It was unwise to judge the bird simply due to its size an appearance. After all, in the world of monsters, sometimes the smallest foe could be the deadliest. Taking off his straw hat in attempt to catch his breath, the digimon swiftly moved to the side just as the bolt of lightning shot towards him. While he was perfectly fine, his hat now held a smoking hole within it's rim. Hyokomon looked towards the hat and then towards the digimon with a frown.
"Can't even wait?! Shesh...why are the giant ones always so pushy..."
Setting the item to the side of him, the rookie digimon pulled his blade slowly from it's back, resting his feathered forehead on its flat end as she closed his eyes in prayer.
"Protect your dreams.....and always...remember your honor"
With that, Hyokomon stretched his weapon out before him, holding it tightly with both wings. While he braced himself for what would come next, the chick smirked as he nodded his head.
"Ok..Now lets go..."

"Anyone is giant in comparison to a small fry like yourself? What happened? Did you not get enough Digi-vitamins as a baby or are you the runt of the litter?"
Making insults is what he usually did when something didn't go his way in battle like now when he missed that little bird. Hiro could see the irritation on his new friend's face, and he figured that he needed to do something to aid his little buddy in this fight. This meant that he first had to put his clothes back on, which is something that he had forgotten to do before continuing with this really weird conversation.
It took him a minute to get the sweats back on, but now he was ready to be of assistance to his partner. "Now what do I have that would be the least bit helpful." He fished around in his pockets to find that all he had were those Digimon cards and his wallet. Since his wallet's contents were useless, Hiro decided to try and use the card's somehow. He picked one up at random and looked at the digivice. "Here goes something. Digimodify. Yellow Power Bean activate."
Betamon felt himself become more powerful, so he decided to make the most of it while he could. "Beta Slugger!" He lunged at Hyokomon, rolled up into a ball and aimed his fin right at the guy's head. He was moving as fast as a baseball that some major league played had thrown. This was definitely going to hurt whatever he hit.

As the cannon-like attack slammed into Hyokomon, the small chick was sent flying backwards along the sand. Though as quickly as he had been hit, the digimon was soon back on its feet and laughing as he breathed heavily. That attack had packed quite the punch, which meant he would have to be very careful from here on in. These human and digimon pairings were more deadly than he had thought. Yet, Hyokomon still believed that a warrior's will was stronger than anything else.
"Not bad....But I'm not out yet...."
With this statement, the bird began to make his move. He made a swift dash along the shore, his blade dragging behind him.

At least Hiro had accomplished to help his partner hit such a small target, but it didn't get destroyed so that meant more work was needed. He looked through the cards that he had on him in the hopes of something that might prove useful against a little bird with a sword, but he wasn't sure which to use. This meant that it was time for a random selection of sorts. "Digimodify. Fly Away activate!"
During this entire card choosing moment, Betamon had been running toward his opponent so that he could use another Beta Slugger on him. Unfortunately for them both, wings sprouted from his back, and his small, but not as small as Hyokomon's, body was airborne. "Are you nuts? I have flying. This is probably going to make me sick or something, but did you think about that no."
"Quit your whining and attack him already. You have the advantage now that you are above him you little baby." How did he get stuck with a Digimon that couldn't take being about fifteen feet off the ground? Hiro could understand hundred feet, but Betamon seemed to be blowing this entire thing out of proportion. "Don't call me a baby, you nincompoop. Electric Shock!' Another bolt of electricity was aimed at his opponent, but Betamon was seriously tempted to give a little charge to his tamer just to teach him a lesson.
Name: Fly Away Duration: 5 Posts Color: Gold Effect: The Digimon acquires the Special Ability "Fly". This will give the digimon the ability to fly. Digimon may gain wings when this card is used, but the transformation is different from digimon to digimon. This card has no effect on a digimon who is already has the ability to fly.

As another bolt flew at the small digimon, the creature shifted its charge to the side, feeling the heat of the attack as it impacted the ground close to him. Though Hyokomon kept on its mark, jumping into the air to become airborne as well. With them now in the sky, the chick was confident that this battle had now turned in his favor. After all, he had seen many things, but never a Betamon that could fly.
With his blade still hanging along his side, he waited in till he felt that he was close before swinging upwards with his attack. It was a risky move, but playing defense could only last for so long. Plus, Hyokomon was getting tired of being a target for the bully of a digimon. Just what was his deal anyway? Did all Betamon really have that much of an attitude or was he just one of those rare cases? Maybe he'd ask one when he got back home.
"Cleaving cut!!"

Hiro realized the major error in his plan with giving Betamon the ability to fly as their opponent was a still a bird even if it wasn't much of one. "Betamon. I think I have performed an epic fail with the last idea." He could see that Hyokomon was still able to move with the grace of just about any samurai while in the air as it slashed as Betamon, and Hiro didn't have enough time to react to the situation like he would have liked. This meant that Betamon was completely on his own as far as this round went.
Unfortunately, Betamon only saw the part where Hyokomon jumped in the air to dodge his attack because Hiro's comment had distracted him enough for it sliced right up his right eye, which hurt like a word that could not be said aloud because there was the slight possibility that children were present. "Make a mental note that yelling useless things at me is also an epic fail. Now give me some help."
"Fine, but if you start to get snappy with me I am going to kick your butt myself." He began to scan through the cards in his hands and picked out one that would help the amphibian to hit the little bird at least once if not twice. Hiro expected a thank you from Betamon after the fight was over, but the likelihood of that happening was not very high. "Digimodify. Palmon's Poison Ivy."
Betamon felt his front fins begin to change as they became claws, and for a split second wondered what the kid was thinking but decided that there was probably a reason why this choice was made. He whipped his modified arms toward his opponent and smiled like a villain would. "Poison Ivy!" It was time to put this bird in the water, so that they could get some boiled chicken.

Hyokomon was learning a lot today. It was strange, all this time he had considered himself a strong force to be dealt with, but these two were something else. Even if they didn't look it, they were somehow finding a way of working together. In their bickering, they were overpowering him slowly. Their newest attack was proof of that, as the vine whip attack sent him into the water, slowly sinking down into the depths of the ocean.
Eyes closed, the chick shook himself back to his senses, sheathing his blade before he began to swim towards the surface. Though in the back of his mind, he wondered if he was truly going to meet his end? Would his data will be devoured in this duel? It seemed possible, he was out of his elements in this world.
I guess curiosity has it's price after all....
