Well, as I've seen little to no progress on the decision on the usage of the Guardians/Spirit warriors, I came up with my own idea for them.
-----
There is a legend that when the digital world was young and there came a threat so great that it threatened to destroy the entire world, ten warriors of the elements of fire, light, ice, wind, thunder, earth, wood, water, steel and darkness rose up to defeat it. However, victory came at the price of the ancient warrior's lives.
However, there was still hope of the ancient warriors' return. It is believed that the warriors will be reborn when next they are needed. The elder mentors of the original warriors believed this, and built temples in their honour, where they'd keep the memory of the digital world's guardians alive and pass down the knowledge that would be required of those who would mentor the reborn warriors when they arrived.
When the D-reaper arrived and the guardians didn't, faith in the guardians was lost, and today, for the most part only the elders and their apprentices stand alone in their temples, waiting ever faithfully for the guardians return.
With the new threat of BlackOmnimon, a new opportunity for the guardians to rise up against this threat, and there are rumors spreading that they are really out there this time. Is it true? Or is someone out there just spreading false hope? Only time can tell, and either way, if they don't make it to the temples and receive the training they require from there, their return will be for naught.
Notes:
- Elders are the heads of temples. What time they don't spend searching the digital world for the guardians is spent maintaining the temples and passing on their knowledge to their apprentice, if they have one
- Apprentices are those being trained and educated to be the next elder for the temple. If the guardian arrives before the apprentice succeeds their elder, they will assist their master in training the guardian
- Elders will start at Ultimate level, apprentices may be rookie, or sometimes champion
- Guardians will not have any knowledge of their status until they meet the elder of their temple
- Guardians, though they have power greater than that of a normal digimon of their level, will not be able to utilize that power until they've completed their training at their temple
- Once all ten reach their final stage of digivolution, they will have the ability to DNA digivolve to Susanoomon. However, this will use up all of the guardians' energy and they will die when Susanoomon degenerates.
