Another day was meeting its end, as the sun set upon the jungle once more, slowly disappearing beyond the horizon, lighting everything in it's crimson red light. Red, like blood. Today a lot of things were done... A lot of pain, a lot of sadness, and a lot of death. Who won? No one. What was accomplished? Nothing. From a humanist's point of view, this day should have been considered a tragedy...
But that was one point of view to take. For several people, such a development promised only opportunity, and was certainly a welcomed event. Most would argue that such a view is cruel, despicable, opportunistic, but still, different people - different opinions. Hashim shared both however - being a weird mix between them, feeling sorrow for lives lost due to bad leadership, but also rejoicing upon his former master's death, and anticipating good things for the future. He kept all this to himself though, as he observed the army crossing the river, which was the border between the dino land and the area controlled by Black Omnimon's forces...
- I cannot believe we actually made it... I thought we were going to die... - Hashim heard a voice from behind and turned around. He was not startled however, he recognized the voice. It was Harley, one of the few harpymon sisters that survived the battle. Most of them perished in suicidal attacks Paidramon send them for. A nasty burn on the side of the flier's armor attested to that.
- Yes, we were most fortunate... Fortunate the enemy angel killed our "glorious leader" before things could have reached the point of no return... - Hashim replied thoughtfully as he returned to observing the troops. He hated the paildramon for sacrificing so many good troops like Harley because of his ineptitude. He deserved his fate.
- If only you commanded us... My sisters wouldn't ... wouldn't have been... - the harpymon did not manage to finish her phrase. It was too much of a pain to invoke the memories again.
- If only... - Hashim sonded remorseful as well, to comfort the flying digimon, her loss was pretty bad and he knew it, but inside... I think your wish would become reality soon... Things could have gone much, much worse, but they didn't... And I am going to take all the credit for it. - he thought to himself, an ambitious smirk forming at his face for a moment...

"The battle must be over, time to check how much was left of that idiot's army"
Triceramon, one of black omnimon's spies infiltrated within the dinosaur digimon ranks lurked within the nearby area of paildramon's territory, he was ordered to bring him a report about the outcome of the battle, and nobody actually expected them to be successful, only to weaken enough the dinosaur resistance to later send better troops who would easily takeover the territory of that loser's brother. However, in the case paildramon succeed or escaped from the battlefield like a coward, the bug-dragon chimera had to wait for triceramon in an specific spot to give the three horned digimon an update about the situation.
"well well, looks like that "army" is still in one piece"
He abruptly entered into the area where paildramon's army was to gather and to his surprise a good number of those good for nothing survived. Depending if they succeed or escaped, the triceramon was ready to congratulate or execute paildramon.
"Small fry, tell your leader to come here, black omnimon ordered me to get his report"
The triceramon said to a small goblimon who was awe-struck by the intimidating large and strong dinosaur, he was here looking for good news and if he didn't get them, things were going to get really sour in the improvised excuse of camp they had.

Hashim was soon distracted from his thoughts by sounds of someone coming his way, in a rather fast pace and with a bated breaths - the poor thing's wheezing was heard from a mile away, that's how much in a hurry the digimon in question was. As it soon proved, it was one of the troopers - a goblimon, one of many. Someone probably send him with a message, and he proved to be right about that guess.
- Commander... sir, lord BlackOmnimon's emissary ... is here. Demands to see paildramon with the report... Since ... well, you're the commander, sir, I decided ... to bring this news to you... - he said between gasps, inhaling air - the poor guy must have ran a considerable distance on those two small legs. Not to mention he was scared by the intimidating looks of the emissary.
- It is alright, I expected someone to show up anyway... Get some rest soldier. - Hashim patted the guy on the back, before going down from the small hill to find the mentioned emissary. That jest of camaraderie, it was not exactly necessary, and if there was no one else around, the shamanmon would have probably left without one, but there was someone to witness it. Which was very good for publicity. Harley followed the short guy who, despite all expectations, was their ... only leader, having developed a habit to stay at his side should something urgent or important needed doing...
Hashim found the triceramon soon enough - it was hard not to spot such a tremendous figure on an open plain. The dino looked feral, he probably wasn't one of the inhabitants of this realm, for those collaborators usually did not end up as lord BlackOmnimon's emissaries, being assigned to less important jobs, to avoid treason and spies... No, this one probably was in service of their liege for a long time, and was worthy of respect ... if he got his position by wits and not brawn that is...
- You have summoned me, sire? - Hashim inquired politely, and bowing before the mighty digimon, and the harpymon did not hesitate to do so as well, as they approached. In his hand Hashim had a folded map, should he will be required to show what happened in detail. - My name is Hashim, sire, the ... temporary commander of this armed force. - he added, fully understanding that he was probably not the one the dino was looking for, and introduced himself... He expected questions. And rage. Lots of it.

"And who died and made you the leader? Kidding little guy, I can see very well what happened, knew he wasn't leader material"
He spit on the ground and looked at this new leader, some midget called shamamon who was an advisor of sorts and only guy with a brain on his head in this ragtag group of soldier wannabes. The triceramon had read about this guy before, he had the brains but lacked the muscle to be of any use in the middle of battle. If only he weren't that weak ...
"So that dimwitted paildrafool died, never had much hope in that guy, he sure had a loudmouth but his brain was small and only had brute force on his part. But hey little guy, that means you are getting promoted, we all expected you to die squashed like a bug but you actually pulled together the leftovers and survived, I may look like a brute but I know that it takes guts and leadership to pull something like that with this poorly balanced and untrained bunch of soldiers."
He once more looked at the shamamon, he really was small and his kind weren't really good fighters. Sure, he actually had brains, but what can he accomplish being THIS weak? Nothing, he can give orders but not actually lead an army
"No, no, no, you can't look like that if you are going to replace that fool, no soldier respects a guy who lacks power and could be easily stomped by his own troops, what you need is extra power, what you need is this"
The triceramon understood very well the situation and decided to give a small promotion gift to the shamamon: He inserted one of his claws into his very own chest without showing any hint of pain and extracted a sphere made of pure raw data, restrained by several lines of fractal code
"Kiddo, prove me that you want to become a leader and I'm giving this to you. Brains are always better than only muscles, but a leader has to be strong too and charge into the battlefield to raise the morale of the troops"

Well, Hashim seemed to be the lucky one with the emissaries today - the one that came seemed to be a decent fellow who recognized what really happened in a matter of seconds. He also seemed to be generous enough towards good soldiers, and the shamanmon certainly was one. That spared him the trouble of explaining that this was a tactical retreat, not a rout, and that they were not cowards, they were simply outmatched.
But when the dino started talking about a promotion, and extracted a ball of data out of his body, Hashim's eyes stated glowing with excitement. Yes, that was what he was waiting for. His chance in life. He better not blow it. He would make a much better leader than paildramon could have ever become. His ambitious plans would finally come one step closer to fulfillment.
- Thank you sire, I will live up to your expectations. - Carefully, the shamanmon lend his hands towards the energy ball, taking it and slowly plunging the damn thing into herself. His eyes turned to numbers of the binary code, as he felt the data flowing through him, his form changing ... he lost consciousness...
Hashim managed to gain it back in a few minutes, shortly... His body ... it was ... reformed. For some reason he felt very strange ... for starters he was taller. If he was a half-sized shrimp, now he was able to look at Harley from the same size, if not taller. He also felt his body covered ... no, not covered, the hard shell was his body! And these new ... limbs? Were they limbs, or more like ... wings? This was no ogremon that's for sure, not the typical evolution for all goblimon, this was way different...
- I'm ...a bug? - Hashim muttered in confusion, looking at his own reflection in the puddle...

"Ha ha ha, now you really look like a leader worth following. Time to test those wings of yours"
The triceramon congratulated him and gave him a pat in the back. The dinosaur being so big and strong would've sent him to kiss the moon were Hashim still a shamamon, but now as a stingmon, he was quite sturdy and his body was tailor made to endure punishment and deal it back, he was also a fast flier and he better learn how to fly right NOW as the pat was strong enough to toss the now stingmon into the air and it would be embarrassing for him to fall on his butt if he were unable to fly
"Fly and awe your soldiers with your magnificent new body, they have to see how you are not only a tactician, that you can actually do things on your own. That data wasn't your everyday data, it had plenty of concentrated insect data from powerful insect warriors we defeated in the past. Many youngsters thinks that strength is all that matters in battle, but speed and resistance plays a big role as well, I'm eager to see in what kind of insects will you evolve, those folks are known for having top notch speed and resistance, traits that fits well a tactician who also charges into battle."

- Say wha... aaaaaaa! - the newly formed stingmon only managed to yell as he was being tossed into the air by the blow the triceromon delivered at his back. How was he supposed to follow instructions after being caught by surprise just like that? Hashim braced himself for impact as he was about to hit the ground, when suddenly ... he felt his rapid descent stopped ... but it wasn't him, he did not use his wings ... yet. Instead he felt a clawed grip tightening around his shoulders, and wings flapping over him...
- Fly commander! Fly! - Harley's voice was heard, and Hashim decided he should try. Batting his own wings seemed like an unnoticeable effort - those things bat for themselves, with a speed impossible for any non-bug type. Seeing that her boss took flight, the harpymon released her grip and flied off to a degree, turning around to see what happened. Hashim was able to hold himself in the air alright, though it would take some practice to use his innate talents properly. Slowly, he descended down, until his feet reached the soil, and picked up the map he made from the ground - that blow made him drop it.
- I will practice... But sire, here is the report about the situation now, and about what happened on the battlefield. - Hashim said as he approached the emissary with his maps and notes. Flying and leadership thingy was all well and good, but they should not get in the way of real issues here. The former shamanmon prepared a full report on the subject, so that superiors would know what really happened here.
- Sire, I'd also like to commend the regular troops on their efforts. Despite their training level is that of a rookie militia, and paildramon's inferior notion of tactics, they still were slowly winning the battle, but it is the arrival of unexpected allies that turned the tide of it. I humbly ask you to give me permission to train these soldiers, so that they could become a full-fledged legion and prove their worth in combat...

"Good grief, you earned your wings"
That newbie was quite good, other digimon who obtained their wings per first time would have a hard time keeping themselves floating, but he was doing very well and even got the support of one of his soldiers, one harpymon who would follow him till the end of the world, the triceramon expected great this from this smart soldier who managed to obtain the loyalty of his troops despite previously being a mere shamamon.
After promising to practice, the stingmon showed at the triceramon some papers with a proper report of what happened. That's exactly what he came from and that's what he obtained.
"Unexpected allies, eh? That makes no sense, I've kept an eye on the activities in the entire territory and there's only dinos and your small army here"
He changed his intimidating but sorta friendly face into a real serious one that would make his enemies tremble with fear as he read the documents. According to what Hashim and the written report had to say about the matter, two champion digimon not native of this land with high firepower and skill somehow guaranteed the defeat of the improvised army paildramon gathered by first spreading their troops through the use of strategic bombardment and by killing the dragon-bug chimera himself. The triceramon couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as those unexpected news proved to be NOT what he expected to find here.
"And you let that tylomon escape when you had the chance to capture him? not that I can blame you, it was only your good mind and plans what kept you alive so far but he could've provided us with important information about those "irregulars""
And that was how the term irregular was coined by triceramon to name those two unexpected guests that single handed destroyed an entire army. One was a darcmon and the other a tylomon, both a complete enigma that could become a thorn in black omnimon's side.
"I don't care about the failure of the mission, but black omnimon will not tolerate that somebody is messing with his plans. You have the permission to train everybody here and shape them into worthy soldiers, and while you are still stationed here, find anything you can about those irregulars, it's been ages since I saw a battle where only one or two digimon completely changed the outcome of it, and that kind of digimon are the most dangerous. If they are mere mercenaries the brother of paildramon hired, try to get them to our side, if they are opposing lord black omnimon, first capture them to learn what they know and then crush them"
He put together back into a small folder all the maps and documents about the incident and safely carried it on him. The unexpected twist in this area was not something to ignore and he looked seriously at the stingmon.
"We expect many things from you. Do not disappoint us like your former leader did and you might reach far, maybe far enough to have me as one of your soldiers; but until then, focus into creating a competent army. I'm going back to my usual post to prepare a messenger to deliver this to black omnimon, if you have something else to report you know where to send the info"
The triceramon then left, his strong steps made the ground tremble as his imposing figure walked far until disappearing in the horizon. Oh, and he left to Hashim the coordinates where he was usually stationed if he had something important to relay to black omnimon.

- Fear not, sire. I will not fail. - the stingmon gave the triceromon a proper military salute as he departed with the report, returning to his own business. The stingmon had much to do as well. This day gave him many top priority tasks - train an army, capture the strange irregulars, and, ultimately, learn to use his new body. He was intimidating, sure, but he never really fought in actual combat - a kid with a butterknife could defeat him so far. Indeed, much to do, very much...
- Commander... What do we do now? - the harpymon asked shyly from behind. Before she was used to talk with a small shamanmon, who was a self-promoted leader, now she was looking at a mighty stingmon, who was their official commander, their general. And they were now supposed to salute him whenever he showed up.
- Assemble the troops. They should know that starting from this day they are not a ragtag bunch of misfits send for the slaughter. Now ... they are to be proudly called the 13th Legion. With their own banner. I will hold a speech in about an hour. Knowing that their sacrifices were not completely vain will bolster morale, and give them resolve to be trained into real soldiers... - Hashim said as he passed by the harpymon, but still felt the glare on his back. There was one more thing.
- Also ... I think I'll need a flight instructor. Think you're up for the task? - he asked, half-turning to the flier. A big grin appeared on the harpymon's face.
- ... Certainly sire, I'll be glad to... - she replied and gave a salute with her arm wing.
- Good...
