13th legion's march across the barren desert lands was a very long one, full of hardships. It would have been easier if the soldiers were grizzled, battle-hardened troops, who were used to such conditions, but most troops weren't, so the movement posed an exceptional challenge for them. Still, it was all for te best - hardships made people stronger, steel is forged in fire. Hashim knew this, and viewed the debilitating march as an exercise.
During his time in paildramon's service, though he did not take command of the forces, he was put in charge of supplies and logistics, mostly because the arrogant dinosaur viewed these tasks as boring and not worthy of a true warrior's attention. But Hashim knew that a general's task is not only to lead the army in battle, but to keep the troops fed, rested and prepared. So he took preparations to march over the desert with great caution. Large reserves of water were made, and all troops received white fabrics to cover themselves during the march, and it were the reason they looked more like an army of muslims during Jihad...
Hashim knew what the task was, and with what he was supposed to assist with. A city in the middle of the desert. It had to be taken, or destroyed. Simple as that. He knew not about the angels, it was not relevant. An enemy is an enemy, nothing personal. At least to him. To demon corps, however, it was pretty personal. Well, he had his orders, and followed them, this was why his newly-found legion, though undertrained, was here...
Hashim stood in front of the black-red tent which was, supposedly, the HQ of the demonic armor. There were many smaller tents nearby, all black-red as well - demon style, typical. It must be hot as in an oven inside, since black absorbed heat. The stingmon was in contrast to the surrounding black fabrics, especially his white cloak he covered himself with during the campaign in the deserts. He was invited for a briefing, which involved the demon general and his trusted commanders. As part of the war effort, Hashim was obliged to be present, and say his word, should the need arise. Without further delay, he entered...

"Black omnimon is an idiot, we don't need weaklings in our army!"
An skeletal figure impatiently walked back and forth inside the largest tent in the camp, he was the general skull satamon of the demon corps, an extremely violent undead digimon who grew impatient due he was ordered by black omnimon to wait for some "buffoons" when he could've simply crushed already the angels and proceeded to conquer the bad lands zone.
He waited and waited and just because he was bored he executed with his bone nail the dracmon who brought those undesired news that delayed his desire for the death of the angel species.
Almost as if the death of the dracmon triggered it, a bug digimon came inside the tent, covered with a disgusting WHITE cloak, demon igimon loathed anything that reminded them about the angels and skull satamon moved so fast that it looked like he teleported next to the stingmon and touched the insect's shoulder with his cold, bony hands.
"What kind of clown are you!?"
Without any warning, he completely destroyed the white cloak with a single swing of the edged side of his cursed staff, not damaging at all the stingmon, then "teleported" back to his usual position, sitting on his chair.
"I cannot understand black omnimon, I requested more devil digimon to join me and instead he sends me a tiny bug and a bunch of losers with white robes. You will be only an hindrance here if you can't even tolerate a little heat and if weren't because I was ordered to receive you, I would have already given a better use to your army"
Of course he meant killing all those cannon fodders and share their data with his fellow evil digimon corps, he tolerated not weakness and he saw as a weakness how little tolerance those tiny insects had against the heat of the bad lands. Demons like him felt at home in places like this, it reminded them of the warm flames of the digital hell where they ruled and that was why they were chosen to conquer this dead land, they excelled and thrived here.

- Oh, an idiot you say? Unfortunately our lord isn't here to hear it. - Hashim did not flinch in front of the menacing demon lord. Armed with knowledge, he knew that showing fear in front of one who despises weakness is a surefire way to lose respect. Respect, it was all a matter of respect. And the stingmon had to earn some from this arrogant bag of bones. How much he reminded him of his former master, you have no idea. Even the manner of speech was similar. Still, Hashim knew he had to be better than that, an idiot never is able to make his way into being the leader of demon corps. If anything, their officers were among most competent he had ever seen, because of the constant competition.
- And I do not think you are in position to doubt our lord's judgments. We are here not because we have nothing better to do, but because you took an entire army to the deserts to conquer a small desert city, spent a month here, and for some reason is not conquered. Moreover, you dared asking for reinforcements. Thousand demons at your command, and you can't take a tiny village, and our lord wants to know why. It is why I am here. - he made a sharp stab at the skullsatamon's ego. Also, the "tiny bug" wanted to know what kind of excuse the mighty demon would come up with. It would be ... amusing to see a devil lord coming up with an excuse.
- And speaking of heat... How are your water supplies doing, general? - a snide question came next. During his wandering at the devils' camp, he saw very little cisterns with water, and the regular troops were suffering from lack of water. If anything, this siege was damaging them more than it did the enemy within the town. One more jab at incompetence, the devil lord probably thought to capture the place quickly, and did not brought enough supplies for a lasting siege...

"The little bug can talk big, eh? Maybe you aren't a complete waste of data after all"
Hashim did well in learning about the ways of the devils, they valued power and attitude on everything else. The strong but gentle would get killed while the weak but wicked could become one of them, that was the way of the devils and his bravado and criticism actually earned him some respect points. Demons like skull satamon hated failure and while all the verbal ammo of the stingmon was painful to hear, it was all true.
"Everything was going as planned until the celestial host arrived. Their holy powers are the only thing that burns more than the flames of hell itself and I needed many sacrifices to reduce the number of angels to a comfortable number."
The loathed power of light, the bane of all evil digimon, was the main reason their attempts at conquering this region failed. They had half-conquered this dead land already whenl angewomon and her angelic host arrived and stationed themselves in a city with good natural defenses. Even the champion level angemon was capable of deleting ultimate level evil digimon like phantomon, that was how much of a pain in the ass those angels were for the evil digimon that composed the demon corps. That was what forced skull satamon to use city siege tactics instead of a direct confrontation, they had recently cut the supplies route that provided the city with food, water and medicine and the bony general impatiently waited until the angels become too weak to continue fighting to launch the final attack. Alas, the demons too were running out of supplies as well, their long presence in the region scared away the natives and each day that passed made harder to find settlements that could be attacked to steal their goods.
"Sacrifices must be done for victory, if you are like the report mentioned you should know very well already about that. We finally cut any route that could be used by the angels to receive supplies and that prevented us from receiving water as well, and it is only a matter of time until they become too weak to stop our attack. I could attack right now if instead of your weak army I got powerful demons."
And what if his non undead troops suffered of dehydration? that was nothing but a small sacrifice compared with killing those disgusting angels once for all. If the insect were in the same position of the skull satamon he would be in an equal or worse situation than him, his troops lacked the demon corps' weakness against the blessed light the angels used, but that didn't make the invasion any easier as the angels were powerful in combat and many of them were unusually powerful, sometimes being as strong as digimons one level ahead them as in the case of exceptionally virtuous angemon and holy angemon, who were almost ultimate and mega tier in power.

- Sacrifices must be done, yes... - Hashim replied thoughtfully upon approaching the large table in the center of the tent with a map on it. The map itself was showing the positions of the demon forces, and, in some places, the forces of the resistance. The information about that was scarce, tis why there were many places still clouded by "fog of war". Hashim frowned, they spent all this time here, and still did not have all the data to be known about the city. - Useless sacrifices are harmful to the cause, however, and can be considered ... treasonous. - he added. Indeed, there was a whole page in a military tribunal code about this. but the devil lord should know this.
- You should preserve your troops better. No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this proved to be a very long game. I will share some of our water reserves with your army, luckily we brought it in surplus. However, this will only prolong the inevitable for a few weeks... - the stingmon said, his armored finger knocking at the table rhythmically, as he looked upon the map, focused. So the devil lord laid a siege, cut off food supplies. As for water ... well, he thought he cut it off. In reality, it probably was a different story.
- Cities do not appear in the middle of the desert for no reason. They obviously have some wells to supply them with water, and if they have water, food can be disregarded. If so ... this siege is lost, they will not become weaker, only you will. With each day you spend under these merciless rays of sun you diminish your chances of winning the battle. There a few choices for you, demon lord. Either you abandon siege and return with defeat, therefore acknowledging incompetence, or you attack with what you have now. They didn't send powerful demons because they don't want to lose them in combat against a clearly superior foe, that is why they sent us. Tell me, what did you try against them so far? - Hashim mercifully stopped the touchy subject, redirecting the discussion to more present matters, though, if rephrased, his request would have sounded like "tell me how you failed".

"Ha, and you think we are doing this for black omnimon? We only follow that idiot because we love destruction and conflict. He knew well since the beginning how we were and he is well aware that we will betray him the moment there's no more wars to fight in. So we don't care if we are labeled as traitors, and neither does black omnimon"
Skull satamon wasn't really as bright as a general should be, but all the other demons respected and followed him for he was everything and evil digimon aspired to be. Brutal, merciless and strong, those were the traits that describe him the best and the traits any evil digimon worth his weight in evil dollars needed, that made him one of the most popular evil digimon and reason why many followed him. Besides, demons tells no lies and he was brutally honest, he made clear for black omnimon that he was going to do whatever he wanted and black omnimon was OK with that, that made the demon corps unreliable but predictable.
"And what if I send many digimon to their deaths? Everybody here fears not death and we proudly charge into the battlefield to win or to die, that's the way of the demon corps, I too throw myself into battle unlike some pansy cowardly generals who hide behind their pawns."
The insect digimon underestimated the intelligence of the leader of the demon corps, the map he picked was one he purposely left there in the unlikely case somebody sneaked inside the camp and stole it. The skull satamon split in half his staff and revealed inside a copy of the real map with updated information, then gave it to the stingmon, it was a lot more complete than the previous one and even had marked underground water veins that passed below the sieged city, most of which were cut off by their forces and the last one currently being sabotaged by his men. His only oversight was starting so late this plan and it was only due the insight of his right hand, one devimon who unlike the others enjoyed to use a long sword in battle.
"They will perish sooner than us, your map is a fake I left there in case somebody came and stole it from us. We have all but one water vein closed off and that will guarantee our battle. And if I were to assume why he didn't get more demon reinforcements is because black omnimon fear us, he always keep us separated in groups that can be stopped if we rebel against him. That cheap bastard, he really took seriously what we said about betraying him, not that we mind really, its a lot more exciting that way"
Maybe the stingmon wondered why they didn't use the water veins they already controlled, but the reason was quite obvious: they being demons, loved to cause pain and completely sealed those water veins to make sure that regardless if they won or lost, the survivors and inhabitants of the region would suffer even more than before.

- I see... - Hashim would have raised his eyebrow, if he had any. So he was dealing with another bunch of warmongers who lived only for battle. They always preferred to enjoy the process more than achieve a particular result. they weren't soldiers, they were warriors. And between soldiers and warriors, the former were more useful for fighting wars - they didn't have their egos as a standing issue. Hashim was a soldier-type, he needed results. Results ensured moving up the career ladder, not boastful speeches. the only thing that impressed him was the fake map thingie, impressed with the uselessness of it - he could have at least brought a normal map for his arrival.
- In that case, unseal one of the veins and poison it, you demons are known for your wicked poisons. The water veins ought to be connected with each other, so by poisoning one - you poison all, and the enemy garrison will suffer... - he shrugged. That was a pragmatical way of dealing with this problem, he would have offered this idea sooner, should he had known the real state of events. Tch, cheap useless fake maps... Go figure. But now that he thought about it, maybe a more dastardly plan was born on Hashim's mind. One the devil lord would surely like...
- Or I can bargain with them... From what I have read about angels, they always put lives of others over theirs. I could send an emissary to them, with a convenient lie that lord Black Omnimon declared that taking the city as soon as possible has more priority than killing the angel host. And say that if they surrender the city, they will be allowed to leave alive, through a corridor in my forces. The alternative would be certain death of all populace in the wake of impending assault. Women, children, everybody... Should the angels agree, we allow them to pass, and then ambush them all, leaving none alive. - Hashim proposed a sinister idea, worthy of war criminal, but ... winners write history, don't they? Who would punish him? No one, that's for sure, for they were the winners. It was just a matter of how costly their victory would be.
- We would not lose anything if we give it a shot... And I have a perfect candidature for an emissary - white wings, white body, and naive as a child to boot. The only thing lacking is a nimbus on the head. We tell her what we want her to know, and she will repeat that in front of the angels as absolute truth. Besides, they are more likely to believe an emissary from my side than a demon. Should it fail, we can always go back to poisoning wells or even stage a brick-headed assault...

"Poisoning their water is effective but too easy, we can't prove ourselves better than the angels like that"
If the insect tactician thought that demons were idiots for wanting to fight rather using the easy way it was because he didn't know all the details about the feud between angels and demons, no one of them would accept to use cheap tactics to defeat their respective foes. Sure, demons might be sadistic bastards, but even they had standards unlike the military minded stingmon who would use anything to achieve victory.
And then the green commander offered a more juicy alternative. Demons frowned upon indirect victory as poisoning their water, but they had no issues with ambushing them and delight as they cleaved them in half during a bloody battle.
"Hahahahaha, that is delicious. Little and weak insect, that plan is so good that I'm going to let you manage everything war-related as long you can offer us some good action that involves massacre and bloodshed"
Finally Hashim did it, he earned the trust of the leader of the demon corps. Had he played passively and with respect for the leader, most likely he would've ended dead, being nice is for angels, not for demons.

Tch, can't prove yourselves better than angels like that? They already proved who between you two is better by holding against your army for so long despite being outnumbered and outgunned. idiot. - Hashim thought warily as he head why they can't poison the water. Very well, if they need a slaughter, so be it. Should the negotiations plan fail, the stingmon would make sure his devil corps are first in line for the slaughter. After all, it is losses of his own army he should be concerned about, the devils can die for all he cared.
- Oh do not worry, you will get your bloodbath... Leave that to me... - he grinned, as the meeting with the devil lord was over, and the results were ... most fruitful indeed. The bag of bones literally delegated both armies under his command. Things couldn't have went better. As for his cunning plan ... oh, he would see to that, he knew just a person who would do the role of an emissary... Cruel, but effective.
- And what a waste of good cloak... - the stingmon said, brushing away the ashes from his shoulder, and went towards the camps of his own army... He had work to do...
