- Hmm... - Renee gave out a sound as she frowned, upon hearing the tale Lun had to tell. So there was a war going on in the digital world as well. Two worlds, they really weren't that different - atrocities were committed daily in either place. But what was the extend of those wars, she wondered. Were they simply local wars, like so many Earth had suffered through, or was this just a part of a conquest? If the latter ... then things were bad. Really bad.

- You know, during my missions, I destroyed many digimon. Some of them may have been just misguided, scared, and lost, some wished to sew chaos and destruction, but the most dangerous ones I had to face were ... different. They were not confused, or scared, didn't run around killing people, and did not seek a tamer. They seemed to have been searching for ... something. I never found out what, we tried capturing one alive, but all self-terminated before we'd get a chance of interrogating them... What if they were SENT here by ... someone? - she sounded her grim suspicions. It wasn't anything new, Larry also had such hunches, but they find nothing to support such a claim. They did not know about some kind of a warlord existing in the digital world either.

- Tell me Lun, that war you fought in, was it just a local war, or part of a greater military effort on a more massive scale? It is really important. - she asked then, feeling that the answer might bring more light on the events happening here, on Earth, and having a hunch two events were somehow connected to each other...

What silver renamon said ... that could be somehow linked with the cruel battles taking place in the digital world. Digimons who came to the human world with an specific goal rather than appearing lured by tamers or simply being lost ... that was something worth investigating.

"Could it be possible ... that they are looking for the light of evolution?! That is the ultimate power of the digital world and the reason we managed to stop the red reaper that menaced to destroy our world, via spontaneously evolve into stronger forms to stop it"

That made sense! Two years ago an huge light bathed the digital world and most of its population evolved by two stages in the blink of the eye just at time to defeat the digital reaper. That light was later known as the light of evolution and anyone who managed to wield such power was bound to become one of the strongest digimon in the world, capable of forming entire armies of powerful mega-level digimons instantly despite rarely any digimon evolved beyond ultimate. It was that or looking for human tamers to join their ranks, and given how that digimon silver renamon mentioned was tamerless, it was highly unlikely that was their goal in the human world.

"The troops that attacked my town were too numerous and well trained to be just a minor group looking for trouble, a greater power was bound to be leading them and if what I think it's true, they razed my town looking for the light of evolution and somehow obtained the power to travel to the human world and search for the light in this place where normally no one could willingly arrive"

While that was a very interesting theory, the light of evolution was a non physical phenomena that no one knew how to capture ... but what if that light originated from a physical object like a jewel or a digivice? after all digivices were capable of inducing evolution way faster than nature itself lets digimon evolve on their own.

"The only problem with this theory is that something abstract as "light" cannot be captured. Unless it exists within a solid object like a digivice it cannot be obtained; and talking about digivices, I think that they are somehow related with the light of evolution, naturally digimon evolve as they grow older, wiser and stronger, but those strange contraptions can induce evolution instantly. Maybe this Hypnos organization might know something about the power of evolution of the digivices given that they seem to be the kind of organization that researches everything about digimon, and that could give us a clue about where we can find the light of evolution if it is really in the human world"

[Observer]

- So ... you're saying a large militant force is laying waste to digital world settlements, and now they might be sending their operatives HERE? That is ... distressing. - Renee said grimly, straightening up, arms crossed behind her back. The only thing missing was some sort of a uniform and a fancy hat. But that was the pose she copied from Larry, when he was thinking about complex things which might happen in the future. And indeed, now there were many things to consider...

- I do not know if Hypnos should find out they could be dealing with agents of a hostile digimon organization. Those scouts could be looking for something, or they could be the vanguard of an invasion... I fear if Hypnos finds that out, not only repressions on spawns, both good and bad, would be multiplied tenfold, but they might actually ... try launching a counterattack. It is a paramilitary organization, it has its own soldiers, air-force, navy, even armored division... And they would rather fight the war on enemy turf... - she mused, not quite sure what must be done, both letting and not letting them know was promising grievous retribution.

- And if we do not warn them, the city will not be prepared for the assault... Civilians not evacuated, fortifications not prepared, reinforcements not gathered. It will be a massacre... - she assumed the more logical variant. While the light of evolution idea was plausible, it was still far-fetched, too many if's, maybe's, assumptions. But there was only one way of finding out for real what they were going after.

- I think there is only one way to find out what is going on for real... Capture one of the "agents" alive, and force the information out of him. As for the "light of evolution"... I will ask Larry to look for any shred of that in Hypnos archive. Unlike me, he has full access to those files - he's in charge of the digiops corp...

[Mistral]

For what she said, it was obvious that it was a TERRIBLE idea to let Hypnos known about this possible invasion, and there was no need to warn them anyways, the lack of evidence pointing at an invasion made of it a very unlikely scenario.

"I do not believe the enemy is interested in invading the human world, there's nothing to gain out of such enterprise and the manpower needed for an invasion would leave the army in the digital world understaffed."

It was simply logical to think the leader of the army that totaled his town was smart enough to avoid making foolish movements like invading the human world, after all the attack to the town was well planned and those attacking troops too seemed to be looking for something. Never mind, the only way to discover the truth was to do as silver renamon suggested.

"I agree with you, we need to capture one of those agents and interrogate it for answers, and I leave it to you and Larry to search for something about the light of evolution, that is our other clue that might lead to the truth"

It was really an interesting chat, but now they exhausted anything talk topic they could have and they needed to rest to stay healthy enough to face a new day, so he decided to make a suggestion to the renamon.

"Until then we should rest to stay sharp and ready for any kind of situation, if you can't return to your partner's home home nor you have any other place where to stay I suggest you to rest in this house, I doubt my partner would mind it"

- Maybe I would. I cannot show up in the Numemon pub anymore though - that place is under Hypnos supervision... As maybe this place is, you and the girl were added to the database, and Hypnos watches over all tamers in it, discretely. But I think I can stick around for a short while, until found a better shelter... - Renee replied after some thinking. She was grateful for the offer non the less. However, why the lunamon kept showing such acceptance, despite the fact she not too long ago belonged to a nefarious organization, was a mystery to her. But really, she didn't even want to find that out, it didn't matter.

- And ... thank you for the offer. I will not cause any discomfort, or stay for long. I'm sure Larry will find a place for me to hide in, where Hypnos rarely dwells...

[Mistral]

"Please feel at home and rest where you want"

He retrieved from below the wardrobe a tatami mat and placed on the floor along some blankets and a pillow. The entire set was about some anime show of which Mistral used to be a fan when she was a more mentally sane girl, but the lunamon expected something silly like that wasn't going to stop her from using it.

"If you wish you can use that mat or my own bed inside the wardrobe, your choice is yours and I don't mind where I sleep."

Regardless the renamon's choice, he went inside the remaining improvised bed and wondered about what awaited for them in the future, maybe something good, maybe something bad, but it didn't matter as long they were faithful to their ideals and always did their best to overcome any difficulty.

He covered himself with blankets and many thoughts started to fill his head as she slowly fell asleep.

"Gatomon ... Many things have changed since you died and I had to wander the world without you, I used to be alone despite having many good around me, but now I can finally say that I found people to consider friends, Mistral who is an odd human with goodness in her heart, and silver renamon, whom I managed to identify despite having so different background stories .... wherever you are, I want you to know that I will never forget you and we will always be together forever, ever ..."

And then he slept, dreaming with the long gone past in which he and Gatomon always went from place and place together, bonded by something stronger than mere friendship that helped them to overcome any obstacle. Despite all the hardships he had to endure in the past, those days the happiest in the life of the lunamon, the ones he shared with his soulmate gatomon.
